We’d love you to join us on Sunday or come to one of our upcoming church events! Check out our calendar below and see what’s happening at Cliftondale Congregational Church.
Rally Day is an annual event held on the third Sunday of September to “kick off” the Sunday School year. We gather in the morning for Sunday School and Choir registration, for older youth to sign up to help with the younger children, and to have breakfast and fellowship with one another. We also offer the opportunity to make a craft, which will be used to decorate the Sunday School for the upcoming year.
In the early evening of the first Sunday of Advent, which is usually the Sunday after Thanksgiving, we all gather together for a brief worship service led by the older youth. Afterwards, we have Christmas crafts available for everyone to make and bring home, which can be used to decorate for the Christmas season. We provide crafts appropriate for young children, older youth, and adults. A wide variety of Christmas cookies and hot chocolate is always available for everyone to enjoy before they depart for their homes.
The Christmas Pageant is a time where the children and youth share the message of joy of the birth of Jesus. Two practices on Saturday mornings prepare the children and youth to perform the pageant on Christmas Sunday during morning Worship. They don’t always perform a traditional Nativity pageant — some pageants from the past few years include Christmas Around the World, Carriers of the Light, and Double-Take: A Christmas Pageant as told by Matthew and Luke. After worship we have refreshments and a visit from The Three Wise Men, with whom the children may have their pictures taken before receiving a treat to take home with them.
During the season of Lent, we come together on a Sunday evening for an activity or craft that will encourage families to reflect upon the meaning of Easter and on the sacrifice Jesus made for each of us. After the activity we usually have pizza, ice cream or something else that kids (and kids at heart!) like. This gives us time for fellowship with one another as we begin the Lenten season.
The second Sunday in June is set aside for us to meet at the church for the Awards Ceremony, at which certificates and other awards are given to everyone who participates in the Sunday School Program. Following the ceremony, everyone heads to Endicott Park in Danvers for the All-Church Picnic. The Boards of the church provide hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks, paper goods, and other staples, while each family brings a dish to share such as salad, chips, or dessert. We open with an informal worship service, then have games scheduled throughout the day including a scavenger hunt, volleyball, and many others. The water balloon toss is always a big hit! There are farm animals and a very nice playground at the park within walking distance of our site. It’s a day of fellowship for people of all ages.
